Want to see your setup - Page 9 Empty Re: Want to see your setup

Post by (B/229) evilivan Tue 19 Apr 2016, 13:03

Finally got my stiction sorted out this weekend.... Feels soooooo much better!

I used this method:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS3t77k0M3I

...rather than (I think) the more common method here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQOOoPdmRl8

In the video he suggests a 15/16th inch bit, but I found that wasn't enough and ended up using the sharp end of a 1/4 inch bit to get them to fit but not stick (all that will make sense if you watch the video, around 10'30'' onwards). I need to do a bit more sanding on the ends of the plugs/pins to get it properly perfect, but it is exponentially better already. Now I just need to find some time to get on the server.....

My setup has evolved since I was last here. New Crosswinds rudder pedals (a damned dream come true by the way...), Obutto and down to single monitor.

Nice setup Utley...

Looking at the pic date-stamp, do you own an old Delorean by chance... fitted with a flux capacitor in a rectangular compartment with three flashing Geissler-style tubes arranged in a "Y" configuration?  Shocked  Smile

(I remember dandering around the factory when they were being built in West Belfast - the original Delorean that is)

Hey fellas,  here is my current jet ranger setup.  After coming back from a five year flight sim hiatus, I purchased the Huey module and now my mission of building a Huey pit begins!  I have a wheelstandpro that's enroute as well as an actual Huey instrument panel.  The plan is to put monitors behind for guages...very similar to my current setup.  I'll definitely keep you all posted on the progress!

I added it, but its technically from the same chassis. Mine is a corsair 730T, the panel is from a 760T, and its just that panel that makes it a 760T.

My 15cm extension arrived today is fitted and works Smile I have the spring removed from the warthog. Is it better to leave it out or replace it to better protect the gimbal?
The good thing about an extension that was never apparent is the ability to offset the grip to make it more comfortable. Looking forward to flying with it later Smile

Sweet Man! Your totally gonna dig it!  I currently have a 15cm curved extension but I recently picked up a 3 pack extension (7.5cm, 10cm and 12cm) kit from Milan over at MFG.  he started making stick extensions and should be updating his site very soon.  I went for the 3 pack because it wasn't that much more expensive than just purchasing one.Want to see your setup - Page 9 Image25

Here are some pics of his extensions someone's posted on the dcs forums

tinkering with a collective head now so I butchered a very old microsoft sidewinder to give me throttle and start control using the buttons on the top and trigger will probably be PTT

I may also have to make a box to accomodate some other buttons from the base

I purchased a 120mm stainless steel tube extension for my warthog stick a couple of years back which helped a lot. I still have the spring left in but the extension weakens its affect quite considerably; it just about still has the strength to self centre. I use the left throttle arm as the Huey throttle and the right arm as the collective. Not ideal but works once you get used to it. I have seen some interesting ways of attaching a tube to the Watthog throttle arm to act as a collective tube, but still to do something in that department as yet.

Some really impressive and innovative work from you guys on conversions to your rigs... well done guys Smile ^

Corner hacked from a broken sunbed, a cheap decathlon rubber bicycle grip & 3 zip ties.

Works a treat on the right hand throttle, leaving left for zoom and all hats and switches still accessible.  Give good control with the TMWH accuracy, the unit sits on a low simple stand by the side of my chair.

As a bonus, can be used for twin throttles as is...

I have the other corner around here somewhere if anyone wants it... postage from spain.... or wait a couple of months and I can send it from Belfast N/C.. or just look out for some scrap aluminium tube...

Hey Utley,

Just curious, as I have an Ozone, and I'm looking to upgrade from my Saitek pedals, how did you modify the Ozone like that to fit the Crosswinds? It looks like you cut the support tubes off the bottom, which would definitely give you more room. I'm guessing at that point you are forced to use something else for your monitor stand (which is why you have a desk there). Just wanted to confirm since I can't zoom in on your pic.

I cut some support bars off of the foot piece. This whole setup was kinda over engineered (yes there is such a thing), and those bars arent load bearing. Its designed to support over 300lbs+, how much do you think the average monitor weighs? I hacksawed the useless things off and couldnt be happier. Someday Ill get around to filing the sharp edges off too...

Hm, I might try that. My monitor is pretty old (10 year old 40" Samsung LCD), so it actually is relatively heavy. It would be nice to be rid of those bars though.

Just as an after thought on tube extensions for the Warthog stick... it may be of interest for some to know that the separator tube on some patio parasol support posts just happen to be the same thread as the Warthog (check first before you destroy the wife's sunshade Smile ). Before I purchased a correctly engineered tube I was playing around with an old parasol tube. You remove the wooden or plastic support poles and you have a male and a female threaded tube; invert them, use a small joining tube to connect the two ends together and you have your Huey extension ^ I still have the one I made and may use it later to add another 120mm to the one I have fitted. It's also quite easy to make up a cable extender from a six pin mini din plug and socket or buy a ready made one on the internet.
Hope this helps...

That looks like a serious monitor Utley... and the PC looks like it could go a bit too ^ Smile

...and thanks for the heads up on the warthog collective arm Gizzy. I shall be taking a hard look at mine to see if I can do something similar.  I think I can fabricate an arm and fix it to the hog throttle, but it depends if I can get anything like a correct angle for the arm i.e. a collective 'pull up'; I am pulling the throttle 'back' at the moment for increased angle on the blades, not quite correct but feels comfortable enough.

Next on the to do list is to grab some speaker mounts and start saving for a collective!

Is that a 20cm extension on the WH? With the wheelstand pro, how high does that bring the stick? Right now, I've got some wooden blocks set up such that I can comfortably hold the stick with my arm resting on my lap (around 11" of elevation). Hoping to be able to maintain that height ...
