So, I just got my VKB T-Rudder Pedals IV.

Long story short: Precision, build quality, fit and finish is amazing; but I find them just a little bit on the short size for me to keep my feet in a comfortable position. I either have to keep my legs a little too close together (with my knees pointed up, instead of more relaxed angled off to the side), or I have to end up just the balls of my feet and a little bit more on the pedals and the rest off. I tried to get used to this, because I *LOVE* the control accuracy and precision they give me ... but unfortunately, I just could not.

So, I was wondering: what are the dimensions of the real Huey pedals? Particularly the length of the bars measured from tip to tip? The VKB pedals are 15.7".

Incidentally, as it turns out, the US distributor does not take returns. So, ass such, I have decided to put them up for sale at 20% discount on that famous auction site. This site does not have a trade/sell forum (does it?) or else I would list them here. If mentioning this sale here is non-kosher, please let me know and I will remove this information.

I never had a problem trading with others here. So you know, the real anti torque pedals are about that same size Wear boots?

Thanks.

So the real pedals are that narrow?

Or maybe I just have lousy posture! I suppose it makes a difference how high the seat is, how reclined, and how far forward (i.e., the angle that the legs come down), etc.

Its not exactly the Ritz sitting inside a helicopter ,you dont have a whole lot of space to work with in the first place. Its probably just as tight in other aircraft too, the Beech Bonanza I originally trained on were certainly smaller than the pedals you would normally find in a helicopter. I can always head on down to the museum and go look at the ones inside an actual 212, though I doubt it will be any different.

As for adjusting your posture, just make it to where you are comfortable. Honestly, before selling it why not just make a trip to Home Depot and get some pvc pipes that have an inside diameter that mates the outside diameter of your pedals and just make some slip on extensions?

You know, if you do happen to be by the museum (which museum would that be, BTW?), that would be great ... just for curiosity if nothing else. Please, please, please --- do not go out of your way for this! But if you can do it by-the-by, I would love to know.

This is what I am going to try!

The museum is on the side of Dobbins I work on, so its no problem except for the timing thats all. Only open during working hours....

Bearfoot, just picked up a set of the T-Rudders off e-bay. They're supposed to show up tomorrow. They wouldn't happen to be yours?

Excellent! Really great to know that it is going to someone else in the community! Yes, please let me know when you get them and please let me know how you find them.

My limited experience with them convinced me that truly are great pedals. If it was not for the foot position thing, I would have been 101% thrilled. Hopefully they work out comfortably for you! I did not get a chance to try out Utley's PVC pipe extension idea before you bought them off me, but it is something to keep in mind.

So far so good. I do miss having toe brakes, but the precision compared to my Saitek Combat pedals is much better. Also, the vertical action doesn't bother me at all. Really is a great set of pedals.

Great to hear that you like it! I knew you would. First time I tried the Huey hover practice mission, I felt like I was moving around on rails compared to the mushy constant mushy under/over correction with the Saiteks. And flying Cliffs of Dover or Sturmovik: like a razor blade!

Yes, the missing toe brakes will pose a problem if you fly WW2 German birds, or, more specifically, are trying to taxi WW2 German birds on the ground. I posted a link to a software solution that folks use, but I have not used myself. The software solution emulates differential application of braking input, though you need to trigger the brake input itself using another key. My understanding is that this is how Russian and maybe British warbirds work IRL. Either way, have not tried it myself ...

You want to hear some irony with capital "I"? My Saitek/Failtek pedals failed last night!! Still useable for the rudder, but the right wheel brake is non-responsive. So I've been forced to resort to keyboard left/right wheel brakes .... Sad Sad Sad

Unless I am missing something (and I very well may be!), the only way to steer German aircraft when taxing is to apply differential braking. Rudder pedals only control the rudder, and rudder has no authority when not at speed (i.e., take-off run).

No such option in Cliffs of Dover / Sturmovik BoS/BoM?

And in DCS, there is "take-off assistance" and "auto-rudder" ... but I can take off fine without the brakes and have no problem controlling the rudder, so I have these switched off. It's just ground taxiing that's the issue.

That sucks man. My recommendation at this point would be to hold out. BRD (Baur) is supposed to be coming out with a new set of pedals this fall, as well as Slaw. Either one of those will be great, I'm sure (although pricey).

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a set of MFG Crosswinds. Now the long, long, long, long, long wait ... hoping the Failtek's hold up in the meantime.

My saitek left toe brake broke last night. Opened it up and it has a plastic part the spring connects to and that failed.
But hey I fly helos but if I do get in a old bird I can ground loop like a pro.

Ha! Yep on the helos. I do clock in some time on old birds as well, but have to limit myself to runway (or air) starts now ...
