Do you know what's the movement range of cyclic in real heli?

I want to extend my Saitek X52 stick, but I want to do it in a way that max inputs match with correct ones. I've searched through several topics on few forums and found out that if you extend it to look like a real one your stick will have much more movement and I don't want to waste my sensor inputs.

Thanks in advance.

With out going to the aircraft and measuring I would say 6 to 8 depending on the aircraft. Even though the real cyclic moves around 8 inches, you only move within the first few inches to fly or hover. I have a flight tomorrow I will pay better attention and get back to you.
I also extended my cyclic. You will have to use curves and increase the sensitivity to get the proper movement out of your cyclic. When you extend your stick it will losses sensitivity. DCS is nice because you can use curves, other games not so much.

Thanks. I'm not worried about sensitivity much though as X-52 uses hall sensors and I found out that adding magnets to existing ones really improve the sensitivity of a stick. Right now I have one more and the stick is responding to even slight touch. If it will loose sensitivity I'll just have to destroy another pair of earphones Razz

Sorry for getting back to you so late. You are only going to move the cyclic within in an inch while in a hover. Even in flight I dont move it that much unless I am getting aggressive. What I mean by loss of sensitivity is that your joy stick is set up so that if you move it an inch in real world it should move like that in game. If you make your cyclic longer you will have to move it father in real life to get the same range in game. Thus you need games that let you curve your stick, or recalibrate your joystick sensors.

Thanks, much appreciated. And about the problem with having much greater range, I'm thinking of something like extending the stick only about half way so that max left of my joystick matches max left of a real one. Right now I have made a base for it so it's in front of me, not on the desk, but to keep the chopper steady in a hover without curves I need to move it just by milimeters and it's still overreacting when hovering especially with full weapon loadout.
Here's some (very) basic plans:

My instructor used to tell me if I can see the cyclic move, I'm moving it to much. He was exaggerating, but not much.
In a stable hover, or any other stable condition, you can normally just change the pressure on the stick (left, right, fwd or aft) to correct the situation.
It takes alot of practice and self awareness to perfect.

If you're changing the contidion, like hovering in headwind to tailwind, the cyclic's "new neutral" will be quite a way back from the previous sweet spot.

Your plans are good and effectively match how I have mine setup. You should just be able to make out from this picture where the base of the stick is actually 100mm from the floor height and the shaft has a 120mm extension.

Looks like that will work out, my extension is around 10 inches(11 billion MM or something)  I have made longer cyclics where the effects were not as positive.  The longer ones around 16+ inches gave me problems in games like fsx where I couldn't curve the controls to get a good feel. Let us know how it turns out, and upload pictures.

By the way, are the anti-torque pedals of the real thing self-centering?

Thanks.
I was really worried because I removed the spring from my pedals and it really helped, but if they were self-centering I'd have to put it back.
