Have a read of this no video but I read the entire write up and that must've been a scary day for these guys.

http://www.187thahc.net/Stories/Trialbyfirestory.htm

I know from my flight time on the 01/08/13 21:00hrs with Rattler, Grey Knight, Sliepner, and Blackjack we all commented on how landing at a hot LZ even in the virtual world gets your heart racing and palms sweating I take my hat off to those guys.

Thanks McCoy, good find.

That's exactly what I thought those guys suffered badly and Nomex layered suits weren't all that good back in those days.
By todays standards they are a lot better due to developments in motor racing can't remember from my racing days though how long you have before the suit loses effectiveness.
But any of those suits even todays or then would make you sweat buckets in the climate in Vietnam without aircon in the cockpit.
It must've been unbearable at times.

You have about seven seconds of protection wearing the flightsuit and nomex underwear.

Yeah, it's not much. It's seven seconds of protection in temperatures which you can expect in an aircraft fire, and I believe this is around 1100 degrees C, not sure.
Most people don't even wear the nomex underwear because it gets very uncomfortable in higher or average temperatures.
