Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
Is it possible to take the bombardier position in someone else's bomber in MP? If yes I urgently need a pilot. In Il2 1946 you could take all gunner you wanted but the bombing sight would only be available to the pilot, tell me this is history please

Highway...I have CLoD installed but I need all of the other patches. I looked through steam but can't find them. My understanding is that you have to install all other patches before this last one...where do I find them???

I give up...I was able to install 3.0 and 3.01 but struggled to get 4.0 installed. I even watched a "how-to" video, downloaded 7Zip and struggled some more...guess I'll wait until someone is on TS to help me get it installed.

Don't worry bro....we'll get ya up and going.
I just downloaded and installed the latest update (TF 4.3), and flew a quick "Campaign" mission. Very impressive!
The new MG and cannon sounds in the -109 are worth the price of admission alone!
(grounded with a sinus infection...missed my 11 day work trip that left yesterday...will be around off and on to help you get it up and going....time for more meds and a nap lol...)

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
I like this game more and more. but one thing I don't get is why those damn AI don't attack. Ok for my wingman to stay on my 6 but the whole pack? They're following me like sheep, not engaging, and it's the same with the enemy, very often they do not engage.
From original IL2 1946 I dont find the same commands either like "Return to base" (I NEED that, can't stand to see them crash trying to follow me on landing.)
Plus, when I lead a flight, there is a mysterious "commander" always telling me I have to fly at same speed as him.

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
“Obelisk. You must fly closer, I can barely see you!”
I know Nef, that a-hole pisses me off constantly too!
Not real sure how to get the A/I to NOT act retarded, me thinks it’s just more fallout from really bad programming during the initial build of the game. I don’t think the geniuses over at “Team Fusion” are working on it, for their world is mainly the multi-player code, and in that realm, they’ve worked miracles.
I hazard a guess that the single player A/I is probably as “good” as it’s going to get...which isn’t very good. I’ve flown a few SP missions in the “Campaign” world (the German side), mainly to just get more time logged in the Emil, and it’s frustrating as hell at times. I’ve chased Brits all the way back to Biggin Hill (with that mysterious “Commander” yelling at me the entire time to rejoin him...), saddled up behind them in the landing pattern and picked them off one by one. Fun to be sure, but REALLY sad in the “A/I stupidest moments” category.
Oh, and when coming in to land, I just have the formation go to “far” spread so if the morons are going to crash next to me on landing, it’ll be far enough away that it won’t break my machines...lol.
Try some time on one of the ATAG servers in the MP world. That’s where this thing REALLY shines. When Griff, Showtime and I hook up in our little “schwarm” on Teamspeak, and patrol together over France (or England) swatting at Hurris and Spits, it’s almost criminal the amount of fun we have!
Later...

Hey BBall... I've been practicing my crashing technique in the 109 (getting pretty damn good at it too)...when do you think you'll be on patrol again...I'd love to show you what it looks like to roll a 109 into a fire ball...lol

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
I'm trying to learn the He-111 but I'm horrified by the gunners wich is kinda the main attraction in a bomber. How in hell have they managed to get it so complicated to fire a gun... Also this autopilot thing drives me NUTS.
NeF out.

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
Hehe.... have not....WILL not....try the bombers. Unless I have the “ace of the base” sitting in all of the gunners seats for me, then it ain’t gonna happen (I guess that they did fix some of the gunners issues on the last patch...the TF 4.03 thing). I think SIX flies the -111 a lot....you might try asking him about that autopilot stuff!
Flyer....I’ll be on later tonight to do some patrolling over ol’ Blighty. It’s 1830 hrs now (your time), I’ll prob be on in about two hours. Will that work?

Whilst we're on the subject of WWII sims and the like, here's an interesting WWII US Navy Dive Bombing training video that I found on youtube

I never picked this sim up. Is it worth purchasing or wait for the new one? It's a shame that stalinggrad will not be compatible either.

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
Hey Retro...this is an awesome game. I played a lot of IL2:1946 and loved that one but this is better. If you're not into the details of flying this may not be for you but if you're into engine management and a learning curve (that might drive you nuts...lol), then I would get it. it's pretty cheap (I purchased mine for around $12.00 US) so it can be played even on a budget, like mine.

Guys, I've seen ape of the years vid on different ammo, but I just can't do anything as every button like add/remove is not working. Even the save/load ones are not responding. (tried in single player)

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover...
I did this too, you have to set it in the plane options under the MAIN GAME MENU, not when in a mission or on a multiplayer server. Once you've set them up a nd saved them, you can then select them when in a mission or on a server.
