Some good historical info on there Samri39. I'm very interested in that aspect of the Huey and the 229th. Two of the best books on flying the Huey were written by members of the 229th. "To The Limit" by Tom Johnson and "Chickenhawk" by Robert Mason. Each covered a different time period and area of operations but are essential reading for any UH-1 enthusiast in my opinion.

Ah yes, Chickenhawk.

Read it several times when I was a kid and found it quite inspirational.

You could imagine I was stoked when many years later, I too was an IP at Rucker going into those LZ's marked with coloured tyres.
