I follow this guy on You Tube.  He got to do a flight in the P-51, there is a lot of good information about the p-51 and formation flying.

Nice video. Should this same technique be followed in helicopters. If your closer is too great, drop collective, go under to keep other aircraft in sight?

Not sure I would go under. Lots of bad air down there. Maybe over and behind? We don't have the same problems with advisability as the P-51 so I am not sure if those rules really apply.
