Transports can also move Troops/vehicles/ and large FOB crates, you don't need to capture a field to use these guys. Your Transports can deploy units to you fields and you can move them from there. Also don't post your plans here please Smile I want to check this thread to make sure I answer anything you guys may need. I don't want to spy on your OPS, I'll see you on the battlefield Wink

I'll talk to T about it Painter, I noticed Flick hopping into the Blue as well. Figured it was just a slip of clicking. I've been guilty myself, if you see a continuous problem please let me know.

Nice idea - and clearly lots of work went into building it - but too unbalanced to be fun. After the umpteenth time flying into the AO in a Huey and getting shot down by a F-15, I am now bored and have bailed.

Kudos to the 355th for putting in the effort - both on the design and the flying. You guys got air superiority and we couldn't answer it.

Thanks

I have had very little time this weekend to get on the server much. I also suffered from manpads en route to the AO and was shot down 3x. I accept that in war the rule book is out the window but I had surmised we would be allowed to build up forces without hindrance in the first phase. Its not an issue in fixed wing but a huey flying 50 miles at 80 knots under 100 ft AGL takes time and concentration and with just a few miles to fly I am intercepted by AI Stinger units. I will try to join again today and hopefully Pono we can have a debrief and see how we can better balance it for doing it again if there is enough interest from our pilots Smile

This is really a great idea.. It was exceptionally enjoyable up until a blue player decided to place Blue AA missiles on our territory. In real life that would be a suicide mission as friendlies in the local populace would find them and report their position. I felt it was spoiling the whole intent of the endeavour. I did once start as a blue player but that was just out of habit.
Then I tried really hard to send lots of our troops out to find the Blue AA missiles but after being shot down continuously I made a unanimous decision to look at the Blue map of our area in order to remove them.

Hey Pono

They next morning, and slightly more sober.... Wink

I think that the main issue the imbalance of pilot numbers, and pilots for the required aircraft for a given point in the conflict. Most of the time I have been on since Friday (I've probably flown around 7-8 hours on the mission over the weekend), there was at least double the numbers on the 355th side... And when one side is flying around in F15s when the other is in Hueys, it is not going to be very much fun for the Hueys - especially if flying long ferry distances and then being unsuccessful. I know that is what air superiority means, but it still doesn't make it fun! Wink

I totally recognise that the 'problem' is on our side - we didn't generate enough interest to give ourselves a decent chance. We also should have got more involved in the set-up discussion to ensure that we were balancing the types of flying roles with the available skill set in the squadron.

Thanks for the all the effort you put in to set it up; nicely built mission.

Cheers

Evilivan,

I understand your point completely and in all fairness Cib did mention the sign up for the event was light. My hope was to fly it anyway and generate interest for a next time (maybe Wink not discontent.

I do understand your pain though. As the old guy around here I remember when they merged Blackshark and FC's online play. It was a months worth of getting shot down by a AIM-120 or the Russian equivalent  after flying somewhere for 30 mins in a BS.

That being said there are some tactics we developed and gameplay styles you can use to mitigate the threat. I'd be happy to chalk talk with you guys. Also I'd love to have a debrief with some of you or at the very least a bug list, I saw a few on our side.

I still see you have people flying the mission.  I'll tell my guys to press on till the end, or you guys let me know your done flying so we get off your server Wink

On the server note, Excellent performance and thanks to DaBomb or who-ever runs that unit.

Think we may have hit the wall on the server memory side, having a tough time connecting now and then takes a good 2 min's to get into a slot. Lasted much longer than our server would! Perhaps 48hrs is the way to go? If you guys notice it straightening itself out let us know, if not we will catch you guys later.

thanks again,

I think the server is okay now. It's using 18.2GB of 32GB. Not too bad. I was able to connect a couple minutes ago and get into an aircraft, and we have a couple guys on now.

2200z is here and that concludes the Operation. Thank you very much to all of the 229th and guests for flying and hosting this event for us on your server.

If you'd like to debrief or pass bugs along please let me know! I'm glad we could get back together on Sunday to finish up, thanks again

Thanks for the mission!
I like the whole idea of it.
Problems for the 229th side was the lack of pilots available to fly. This kind of mission requires some pilots, if possible over long periods of time. Preferable with some kind of pre-planning with pilots, times, roles (pilot #1 #2 - 2200z until +0200z - CAP | pilot #2#3 - 2200z until +0200z - CAS |  pilot #4#5#6#7 - 2200z until +0200z - rotary wing etc. etc.). That is the more important the less pilots are available at all (it is much less a problem on a server like Blueflag where you have around 20 people online on each side constantly). Otherwise the whole joy and fun depends a lot of a very random situation of who is online and people easily can get frustrated (like shown in evils post).

Nevertheless - as said - I like the whole idea and the mission and the kind of reallife like scenario and ongoing battle. Let's discuss how it could be improved on such a small scale server (compared to large scales like Blueflag) to prevent frustration for the one or the other side.

Edit:
1st and most important point to improve: More pilots of the 229th need to sign up before and fly! Wink

+1 Painter
Unfortunately I was out of home this weekend and could not join Sad I hope we can do it again next week it looks very promising Smile And if we add Combined arms for some ground operation (if there is someone who can operate it) can be great fun.

I'm not sure we can put that effort online again this weekend, our respective families make throw a fit Wink Though the squad would defiantly like to catch up again in the future.

I will pass on to you guys some info from our debrief.

I'm not sure if you noticed but Saturday morning (EST) you had us on our heels pretty good. Who-ever located our forward FOB and smashed it with Artillery really wrecked our ability to press the attack. The same time you had a pretty good flanking move going to our west. We spent the next hour or so trying to reestablish our forward FOB and supply units to the city. We then had a window to press the attack with some SEAD to push back a bit.

As a hack Huey Pilot I feel your pain when you get smoked by a F-15 or SU/Mig whatever. Little things we do on our side is try to operate under SAM coverage and stage repair crates should they get damaged. Also we always have one of the Helo's in the flight carry MANPADS, if we get a call that we are being run down by CAP we land and put out the team. If the pilot gets greedy normally the man pads fixes that issue. If they go away you can now recover troops in CTLD(I'm sure you know) and move on. Sorry to share this if its redundant, but I know the discontent of getting shot down by a FC3 airframe Wink

Also your naval ships make a pretty solid mobile SAM site and they are infinite supply point for helo's/troops (unless they sink).

BUG reports
Down pilots where set to immortal on the CSAR script which is problematic for the obvious reason
The server didn't get the slotblocking.lua
Restricted weapons were in supply when they shouldn't(my fault, bug in supply logic)
I'm not sure everyone knew but 120's, 58U's, and nukes were off limits.
Resupply stopped working sometime Saturday night.

Just wanted to share a bit incase it was helpful!

Take care,
Pono
