Self Assessment Web Tool (SAWT)
Folks,

It's not being used by new guys coming in or really by people 'in' the system.
maybe it's ...
dunno...
So I ask the question is it worth keeping & monitoring or just bin it?
This is not a criticism of any one so please don't take it as such... it's simply me reviewing the usefulness of it.... is it worth keeping or should we bin it?
If we keep it, it would make sense to encourage use of it though ..
I thought about posting it in the admins section but that would be no good for Chic, Kiwi & EvilIvan so I'm posting it here in the UT section, I think everyone will have sight and can discuss / comment etc...

It's not being used by new guys coming in or really by people 'in' the system.
maybe it's ...
- confusing
- forgotten about
- new starts are not being pointed there
- maybe not encouraged
- maybe too much hassle
- maybe not wanted
- maybe the old way is best in other words just do it...
dunno...

Keep it; some people might find it useful for training purposes. I intend to use some of these as a guide when I train people online...whenever that opportunity comes again...

Hi still think its a good idea, I have been busy with RL and acclimatising to gaming with the rift. Ivan has been organising training for Basic wings with our new members and MQ training for the rest of B company, we will get the new guys up to date in the tool. The other thing is that we are short of IP's ATM so we are concentrating on fun over qualifications. I also have the lambing and calving at the end of February so I will be away a lot for a couple of months.
Keep it is my suggestion

As per my PM, I think it has potential to be useful - and I know I would find it useful. If members engage with it and use it, then I'm all for it, but I'm not keen to have to chase people to make that happen.

Re: Self Assessment Web Tool (SAWT)
PM'd Gizzy with my thoughts on this but, for the record,
I see the SAWT as a useful organizer for the WOC who needs or desires such a tool. I would have used it while at that stage if it was available. Frankly, I have since used it to self legitimize my Basic Wing status. I also based my Check Ride administration on it.
I have discussed its availability and utility with my trainees, but left their using it up to them.
I am not in favor of mandating its use.

Re: Self Assessment Web Tool (SAWT)
OK lads, thanks for the posts...
My views are that it is useful only if used, if not used, it serves no purpose.
Mandatory would be a bad idea.
I've no flag to wave in this, it was just an idea that might be useful ......
May I ask UT's & CC's to monitor it's use and if it becomes a superficial exercise let me know and I'll check with IP's and then remove it and adjust the Training pages accordingly.

Re: Self Assessment Web Tool (SAWT)
I've had a couple of other thoughts since posting the above, so I will add them here:
As I see it, the only output value of something like this tool is if we are mapping people's level of training to what they are allowed to do; other squadrons enforce things like "must be MQ status for combat missions", which would then make a tool like this useful for tracking who can do what. With our TS and signature "labels" it is easy to see an individuals ratings, and at the moment this tool is pretty much just a collator of that info - or am I missing some other use?
B Coy has had an influx lately, making the UT role busier (which is good fun ) and I'm now seeing a need to track people's progress within the BW and MQ programmes - so specifically tracking the progress made by a pilot through the individual skills within the programme stage. I'm not suggesting that you change your tool to include this requirement, Gizzy, I'm just noting that, to me, it is more important to track someone within an individual stage of a programme rather than their achievements overall...
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Self Assessment Web Tool (SAWT)
The tool was designed as an accompaniment to the new training programmes style of defined competencies - so that anyone, at any stage, can self assess what they feel they are competent at.
The main aim was to be an aide for trainers / commanders to see what standard new joins think they are and to monitor pilots self progression through the various stages in order to offer check rides or specific group training directed at skill gaps that are identified.
Whether the tool achieves this aim I am not sure.
The tracking part with progression date stamps are a coincidental by-product.
