In one of the many Huey books I’ve read (guess it was "Rattler 1-7"), adjusting the seat in the lowest position was one of the first advices for a rookie copilot going into a hot LZ, to minimise exposure.

Yup, when I was in the 101st all my pilots flew with the seat all the way down and back.
