Warthog.
Anyone know where I can get a o-ring replacement upgrade for my stick.
Also interested in an extinsion for floor mounting the stick base. I would really like the curve like you see in real helo cyclic.
Ideas.....suggestions.

Hi Skeeter
For the O ring, I found this guy:
jonah@acm.org
...on this website
thewetbandits.org
Sent me two @ $8 each, including postage.
Not sure if he is still making them....

Re: Warthog.
Re floor mounting it - depends on seat height I suppose.
MFG Crosswinds do 3 7.5, 10 and 12cm - they piggyback if necessary - so 29.5 cm is possible but that'll give some movement at the top and probably the X sat would need tweeked a bit..

Re: Warthog.
Skeeter, I used Jonah for mine and Dabomb has one as well. Ill vouch that its about as awesome as a new o-ring can be. Its not rubber, its made out of PFTC type plastic (or whatever) and basically indestructible. He only charges like $10 which includes S&H. Last time I talked to him about 5 months ago is that he had a shit ton of them already made, he practically gives them away. And if he doesnt, its no big deal for him to spin one out...it only takes like 5 minutes to make.

Re: Warthog.
Having just moved my flight/space sim stuff out of a car race sim cockpit for use with my recent PC build (still a WIP) I had to do some hardware wrangling... including relocating my Warthog cyclik and throttle assm. I used an old TV wall mount bracket and some heavy duty speaker stands purchased from a boot-sale (flea market in USA) for £5; I had to cut the old TV support plate to the same (round) size as the bottom of the Warthog cycilk. The benifit of this TV bracket is that it had a small 'ball' adjustment with a locking knob so I could slightly angle adjust the j/stick, thereby balancing out the slight forward weight bias of the stick (it's front heavy in the true verticle). The support arm for the j/stick rides under the sim seat with a small forward extension, The j/stick is also fitted with a stainless steel 120mm extension. Some pics....

Re: Warthog.
That is a nice idea IJammer.
I also wanted a curved stick extension as I needed one to curve back towards me over my seat so i wasnt 'reaching' for it all the time.
i went with a swan neck walking stick
It was a little painful to get it fitted to 'metalandwoods' extension (ed forums) but it worked well. The only problem i had was in the x axis. I couldn't move my knees far enough apart to achieve full deflection, thanks to the CH pedals, and had to tweak the saturation.
Thats a car seat on rails and will slide forward under the stick.
I looked for a solution for a long time, and the walking stick was the best answer i could come up with, short of going to an engineer and getting one made up.
I have since gone back to a shorter straight extension for the reason above.
Food for thought anyway.

Re: Warthog.
The walking stick is a great idea livebait... and certainly looks realistic from the pictures of the Hueys I have seen; and I can understand the problem of having too much throw at the stick end (mind you, my ex could probably have coped with it LOL) and why you went for a straight/shorter tube.
I will put my mechanics head on and suggest a solution... what if you fabricated a metal or hard plastic ring fixed/clamped to the lower section of the stick (the large cylindrical bit under your cator) with the ring sized to limit the throw of the stick. You could almost use a piece of plastic water pipe clamped to the warthog cylinder and cut to a length that would be long enough to restrict the travel of the stick/tube. Then recalibrate the software to compensate for the limited physical throw of the stick. I would need to sketch it out... but it should work. The warthog should also be precise enough to still work well with a restricted throw as it uses a 'Hall-effect' sensor rather than an analogue pot like the old j/sticks.
Back in the early days of sims (aka 1990/95 I used to be a member of 'Wally's World' which was a group of die-hard sim nuts that made our own wheels and pedals/rudders before you could buy commercial stuff... used to be a web site, but long gone now. Wally hailed from Australia and was a great bloke, we all learned a lot from him about building the stuff...

Re: Warthog.
OK Brizzly, thanks for that pic... the stick looks similar to that fabricated by LiveBait. I wonder if it suffers from the same problem with the amount of throw; which is obviously amplified the longer the stick. I wonder if anyone knows what the actual throw is on a real Huey stick? I would think that more control is possible the longer the stick... but their must be a point of deminishing returns as the distance of throw becomes excessive? Perhaps Comanchero has some measurements?
Edit: Wow, I just checked out the Rainman site... he wants $900 for that cyclic walking stick ╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮ How much was the walking stick LiveBait... $10?

Re: Warthog.
$900 is a bit way too much to ask for an extention, but at the very least it looks like its plug and play and you dont have to do any modifications to a cane. I think $100 or so would be about fair for that...but thats just me.(B/229) IJammer wrote:

Re: Warthog.
I'm pretty sure that $900.00 is for a complete cyclic built from scratch by him(no Warthog). The extension isn't on his website yet, only his Facebook page. You would have to email him about the price for the extension I think.
I ordered a stand alone cyclic and collective from him that's still being developed. I'll ask him the extension's price next time I talk to him.
