Here you go guys...more screens and comments about the BOM early release beta.

Mission 2: Bf-109 “Friedrich” to intercept some Bolshevik bombers.

Briefing map for the mission. Generally good stuff (I like the “Spec” tab…nice to know things about the kite). If you are using “Expert” settings, then you better write down the headings/times, etc. You’ll have a map available to you, but the route, your A/C icon, etc., won’t be displayed.

Off we go into the low overcast and rain. The rain effects are good, but I wish they’d do the same as the “goggle effect” with water in “Rise Of Flight”…the streaming of the liquid is very good in that simulation.

Another beautiful cockpit. You can see the bubbles of rain on the left side window. Streaming would be better IMHO. Here’s a cool feature that BOS and BOM offer…you can “Quick Save” your view. Normally, I zoom in pretty close to the reticle when I get into the combat area, hit F10 to save that view, then zoom out and then wear out my neck using TrackIR. When I find someone (sometimes the best way in low vis like this is to use the “Padlock Enemy Air” or “Padlock Closest Enemy” to slew your head that way, then break padlock and just use the TiR. Now, when I hit the F1 “cockpit view” that  I have mapped on the HOTAS joystick, I’m auto-zoomed in close to blast some commie bastard!

My homeboy A/I wingie is in close. Too bad he doesn’t do a very good job of letting me direct him…maybe that’ll change by the time it comes out of beta.

I tangle with one of the P-40 escorts for the Red bombers. Neither of us got a good advantage, and several times, we ended up in the clouds. I DID NOT want to fork it up, and end up a lawn dart into the Russian countryside. I left him, and went to attack the bombers…

I found them and they turned out to be those REALLY nasty Pe2s. Those things are fast, maneuverable, and have LOTS of ways to hurt you! I really hate those things! I can only hang here and squirt him for a second or two…otherwise he’ll rough me up good.

=

I hung back waiting for them to scatter so I could cull one out of the heard and have a better chance of NOT getting my ass handed to me. They eventually found their airdrome, began to break off to land, and I picked out a victim. Can you see all the “stingers” these things can shoot you with?

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. D9

Got me one! But you can see that it wasn’t without a cost to my blessed Daimler Benz… On the way home, I inadvertently overflew a Red AAA battery and the next thing I know, the cockpit view is totally red, and I auger into the world. Not good….

Mission 3: Bf-109 escorting a flight of Me-110s.

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E1

A gaggle of P-40s showed up and bounced the -110s. I got this scalp after a Warhawk driver did the unthinkable and flew right in front of me!

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E2

We beat back the P-40s and within a few minutes, some Mig3s showed up to play. Scalp number 2 for the day!

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E3

Another Mig3 becomes a smoking hole in the ground of Mother Russia.

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E4

I took the opportunity to RTB. You can see that someone got a bullet or three into my machine...

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E5

Ended up in another farmer’s field, but with a “Mission Accomplished” debrief!

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E7

Wonder why I only got credit for 2 bandits….maybe that last guy was able to limp home.

=

Battle of Moscow screens...pt 2. E6

Unlocked a new skin! Cool!

More in a bit…
