Want to talk to a recently retired A-10 combat and instructor pilot?
If so, I have one willing to chat with us this Sunday, Jan 3, in the afternoon/early evening PST ( GMT-8 ).
Reply here if you're interested in chatting with him, and based on the number of folks interested, I'll get him on TeamSpeak Sunday. I've known him since he was a kid, and he's a good guy. Could be a unique opportunity to finally get your some of your nagging A-10 questions answered.
Here's an article from 2005 about one of his non-combat exploits:

I think he's probably familiar with DCS, but he has a family and a life that keeps him pretty busy these days (he's a commercial pilot now, trying to get on with a major airline)
It would be awesome if he could fly with us though -- even once or twice, but I'm not sure how realistic that is in the near term.

I wouldn't miss it..... Except I'll be wasting away in Narita, such an interesting place...oh well there's always gozas and Asahi.
Is there any way of recording it?

1600 in Denver is 2300 GMT.

Might be able to record it, yeah. I know Chuck's done it before (recorded TS conversations), so it's obviously possible. I will look into it.

Don't worry about recording it. I have worked out that 1600 In Colorado is 0800 in Narita so I can listen on my iPad.

Are you okay if it ends up being 0900 or 1000 in Narita? In my brief texts with him, he only said, "Sunday afternoon/evening PST".

Yep, even better, time for gym and breakfast. I just used 1600 as an example of afternoon expecting it to be later.
Hope I'm not the only one interested, if so don't force him into it on my account

Re: Want to talk to a recently retired A-10 combat and instructor pilot?
Quick question: would you allow me to invite a few (2 or 3) friends from VEAF (Virtual European Air Force), including our Swedish A-10 IP to join the TS Q&A session?

Re: Want to talk to a recently retired A-10 combat and instructor pilot?
Goes without saying I guess.. 'course.
I'm interested also but that's too bloody early for me if my maths are correct. If somebody can record I'd owe him/her a beer.

It's gonna be midnight CET between Saturday and Sunday, so still feasible. Will try to record it.

I will be recording it and making it available after editing out any classified info that might inadvertently slip out.

Re: Want to talk to a recently retired A-10 combat and instructor pilot?
Okay. Here's a link to the 2.5 hour Q&A audio, text chat, and a video that Olie (A-10 pilot) posted. Right-click on each file and select "Save Link As..." to download.
Use the text chat to follow along in the beginning of the Q&A as Olie didn't read the questions from the chat before answering them at first (he does later in the Q&A).

Re: Want to talk to a recently retired A-10 combat and instructor pilot?
Thanks guys for sharing that; pretty amazing insight for 2 and a 1/2 hours. I got into DCS flying the A10 and its rekindled the fire to fly and try to employ it properly again.
Also, there is something about the way flight instructors talk that is always the same, from when i tried to join the RAAF, to current serving pilots here in the 229th to Pete on the recording. Just their wealth of knowledge, concise presentation and the use of very simple mnemonics for pretty much every aspect of the flight be it planning, communication, engaging or just plain old flying the aircraft. I bet they cant remember their anniversary though hahah.

I'll never be grateful enough for you Dabomb for organizing this. Same feeling for Pete to spend 2.5 hours with us answering questions of a passionate bunch. Please send him our enormous gratitude. It was quite late for me and felt like a dream come true getting some tips from a real A-10 instructor. Not really sure what I dreamt of yesterday night but it surely had to involve flying an A-10.
