Request to learn and fly with 229th DCS group
Hi,
My name is Bob Howell and I would like to join your DCS Group. I am a retired First Sergeant. I spent 20 years in Army Aviation. The Huey has always been my first love. it was the first helicopter I flew on with the 117th Assault helicopter Company in 1973. The first helicopter I went to aerial gunnery with. I was in Avionics but took every opportunity to learn as much about the Huey as possible. In my 20 years I racked up many many hours flying on Hueys but never got any stick time: So DCS Huey has been both fun and a learning experience for me. I now have a far greater appreciation of what it must be like to pilot a Huey. FYI I am still new to DCS Huey but eager to learn. Hope to hear back soon.
Thanks
Bob Howell

Re: Request to learn and fly with 229th DCS group
Hi Toro 6, Welcome to the 229th. You've certainly come to the right place. We are dedicated UH-1 enthusiast and make every attempt to maintain military-like discipline when flying missions/training. Our training is as close to real world military rotor wing as you can get without being in the actual aircraft. There are quite a few of us that are prior (and current) military members from around the world so you'll fit right in.
I am one of those with a military aviation background. I spent 16 years as an aviation Warrant Officer flying UH-1's and UH-60's and love flying with this group because of their dedication and love for this iconic machine. Aside from the love of U.S. Army aviation, this group is a great bunch of people, that I've come to appreciate as friends from around the world...I think you'll like this as well.
I am also the battalion XO and will send you a "Welcome Letter" that will walk you through the necessary procedures to get up and running with the 229th. Make sure to watch your PM for the letter.
I look forward to flying with you...Top.

Re: Request to learn and fly with 229th DCS group
Greetings Toro 6!
As Flyer said, this is a great group of guys from every corner of the world, and every walk of life. Many former and current pilots, plus a passion for the Huey that's (probably) un-equaled in the flight sim world. While we mainly fly DCS, we've been known to branch out into other crates (from Bf-109s in "Cliffs of Dover", to "Star Citizen"...to everything in between). We've been a bit "slow" lately, as we all wait for DCS World 2.0 (and the Edge engine) to grace our universe, but that doesn't mean we don't still meet up in Team Speak and keep our "cyclic/collective" juices flowing....
Looking forward to flying with you!
Again...WELCOME!

Thanks, were you able to use the links given to you in the welcome letter? also do you have to get the check ride before you can get a password to the DCS server?

Welcome Toro, as Flyer has said everything is a bit slow of late, also get yourself onto TeamSpeak and one of us can help you from there.

Hi Toro 6, No you don't have to get the check ride before having access to the site. One of the admins just has to approve your access. You're going to need training material from the site to pass the check ride. If you can get with someone on Team Speak then try that and someone will help you get settled. Be patient, it's a little slow right now but someone will get you situated. Sorry for the confusion.
