Samri39 Requesting to join
Howdy all,
I was hoping to get involved with you guys (and Gals??) and was hoping my application could be considered.
I was guided to your site from the ED forums.
-What is your experience with flight sims?
Off and On over the years. MSFS, Falcon mostly and recently DCS, but only ever as a single player.
I have always kept an eye on technology improvements and dabbled when I saw something interesting.
(He who dies with the most toys wins...right?)
However, I am a complete newb when it comes to any form of online gaming.
-Your age?
47 (going on 21!)
-Where you live?
Sydney, Australia.
Background:
Started flying when I was 15.
I was then sentenced to 15 years Military Aviation : The Charge - Excessive interest in all things airplanes!
Served in both the Army and Navy plus a 3 year posting to Air Force as an Instructor:
Started out on Kiowas and Hueys (about 8 years) including an exchange with the US Army at FT Rucker as an IP.
Last 18 years or so however, has been on Planks, but my interest in Choppers has recently been re-ignited, thanks to boring nights in Hotel Rooms and You-Tube,
where I stumbled across DCS Huey and have been hooked ever since. (I'd forgotten how much fun it was!)
Whilst I do enjoy "flyin' the line", my deeper interest is creating typical missions, particularly ones which consolidate skillsets and are perhaps good lead ups to a check ride etc.
I am still just scratching the surface of the Mission Editor but slowing getting a basic grasp....well as much as you could expect from a Luddite?
Hopefully, looking forward to joining in the fun (and seriousness of course - when required).
Best Regards,
Samri39

Re: Samri39 Requesting to join
Samri39, welcome to the 1st Cav. Div. I am the battalion standards instructor pilot and would like to speak to you about your impressive background. I have some very good instructor pilots that all have real world experience and are doing a wonderful job training our members but we have so many pilots that some fall through the cracks.
Our training in the battalion is consistent with real world instruction and we use the TC 1-211 Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) for the UH-1H as our bible. I’m sure you’re quite familiar with this document and it would be of great value to the organization to slot you as an IP. We need IP's in your time zone as most are in the North American time zone. I will be on Team Speak today and most of the weekend and would like to talk with you about the above. Again welcome to the organization.

Re: Samri39 Requesting to join
G'day McCoy and Flyer,
Looking forward to getting involved.
It may take initially a couple of weeks to set things up however, if you could bare with me?
Flyer,
I'm more than happy to become an IP If and when you feel I'm ready.....I haven't "hovered" since 1995, so I'm sure I'll take a bit of work up.
I'm sure I still have the ATM buried in A trunk somewhere? (I was at Rucker in 90.)
I have downloaded it though and will start getting up to speed with it.
I've seen the Check Ride criteria, and will start practicing for those as well.
Cheers.

Re: Samri39 Requesting to join
Samri39, no worries. We have an ATM on the site but I'll have to find it for you. All criteria that is listed is right out of the TC 1-211 so practicing those skill sets will get you going. I'll be happy to work with you and get you back up to speed. It's more your UH-1H flight knowledge and training skills that I'm looking for.
I'll be monitoring Team Speak this weekend so "poke me" and I'll check-in with you.

Hi Samri, welcome - I am another newbie to the 229th!
I see you scored yourself the service trifecta there - nice one, the old blue-uniform holiday park is a bit of change to the Army or Navy...like we always say to the grunts when we see them marching around base..shoulda ticked the blue box haha.
Hopefully catch up with you on the line soon - I will be one of your students :-)

Re: Samri39 Requesting to join
Hi Guys...thanks for the warm welcome.
Hey Skullz...these days I'm considered a Plank Driver, but I hope to earn back (at least virtually) the privilege to call my self a Rotor Head again.
Looking forward to gettin' into it.....just figuring out Team Speak at the moment.
Unfortunately, my rig (located in my basement "Man Cave"), is on a wireless setup (via ADSL2) , so I'm not sure how well my online performance will stack up yet?
General Officer Commanding - Home Command would shit bricks if I dragged it all upstairs!!!
(and she's an ex aviator herself!...so ya think she would have some empathy?)
Besides, then that would then be too far away from my Beer Fridge!!
Hopefully I'll get TS sorted out by tonight....Need to go out get a headset today, on top of some SLJ's I have been allocated at morning parade this morning.
Cheers

Re: Samri39 Requesting to join
I recommend getting a Sabrent USB 2.0 to SPDIF adapter for a headset and mic setup, that way its easier to speak on TS while in game.

Re: Samri39 Requesting to join
Hi Hitman,
Thanks for that.
I realised I have some old Dave Clarkes, which I hope still work.
I've just ordered a USB adaptor (Flight Sound X Adaptor), so hopefully that should sort me out?
