Mi-8 Now has GPS on-board...
For $15.00 - and you can happily use your bonus points...
For the price of 2 pints of Guinness I bought it and at first glance looks good in VR and is easily read in VR without the zoom.... Looks way better in VT than 2D and will be an interesting add-on for those who enjoy flying the Mi-8 FM which, to me is superb...
Manual is HERE

First glance look okay Chic... certainly the menu's seem in depth and comprehensive.
Screen's readable even in VR providing your forward a bit with the cyclic positioned correctly between your legs as in RL
I reckon we'll not see you for a long while if you buy it, you'll be up to your armpits with VA...
I think it will appeal to those who like the realism of the Mi-8 FM...

Re: Mi-8 Now has GPS on-board...
I see no reason why not presuming it uses a commonly available board with a USB interface such as Leo Bodnar etc..
Looks like that is true as they offer software to change the pulse width on the rotary switches.
Looks a tad fiddly to use in VR though...
SIX, your DSD box will work fine on the rotaries but you would have to be creative on the modifiers to cater for all the buttons. I tested mine and the pulse width is fine for the display frequency changes etc..
I also have a BBJ box with 4 rotaries (with push) 'n stuff - there on a Bodnar board and I had to change the pulse to 20ms and all is good.
Downside is that DCS controls are under NS430 and NOT the airframe so whatever you use for the GPS they cannot be used on any airframe...but you can get round that with modifiers..

DDS panel does not do a good job with the rotaries, it jumps the menus a few at a time.

Re: Mi-8 Now has GPS on-board...
Just checked... mine is the same....
I had some software around that came with a warning from DSD and I quote 'DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING AT ALL!!!'. I had an issue with my DSD box related to a nasty cup of coffee with an attitude and tried to sort it.... talked to their PR manager.... an A*h.... but in hindsight was probably a matter of translation as his command of english as I know it was suspect... any way I digress I will PM over a software interface.... if you choose to us it... change the pulse rate... I just did and 15ms works perfectly..... it can go as low as 10ms... BUT pulse rate of USB devices I suspect will be system dependent .... YMMV... let me know if it works for you....

SIX, whenever you're bored and have some free time a verbal talk through on the functions of the unit would really be appreciated...

I will be around all day. Working on a new mission. I finally figured out how to get an aircraft to sparkle an LZ with an IR pointer.

Re: Mi-8 Now has GPS on-board...
SIX spent a couple of hours running over a lot of the units operation, thanks SIX, it is sincerely appreciated Sir...
The unit looks like a great addition for both procedural flying and tactical operations with the F10 map cheats off. Took a while for the multitude of screens and there interaction with the rotaries to sink in but it is looking good especially as it is early access.
Sure there are a few things apparently not quite right but that's to be expected... and once the ME side gets sorted and the internal Db fully populated - perfect...
Just need some time... and it's now in Nevada with Alpha...
Just a note, the unit in 1.5 STABLE is not the same as 1.5 BETA / 2.1 ALPHA. Learn on the BETA / ALPHA until the STABLE version is updated....

Re: Mi-8 Now has GPS on-board...
I have some limited experience with this GPS. If there are any specific questions, I might be able to answer them.

Thanks BRIZZ...
In case anyone hasn't spotted it, in the DCS Mi-8 Training menu there are 2 new entries...
NS430 device overview
NS430 training FPL
