I learned a hard lesson this weekend upgrading my video cards to the new GTX1080, so anyone interested in doing so soon and are on Windows 10 might want to rethink it before you go out and buy a 700 dollar video card.

The Nvidia drivers are working 100% for Windows 7/8 for DX11. The same drivers work 100% for Windows 10. However, its the flavor of Windows 10 that will give you a headache. You absolutely MUST be running Windows 10 1511 (build 10586) or later, and if you arent then you better reinstall Windows from scratch if you intend to upgrade. I was running Windows 10 Build 10240 (this version on my licensed DVD) and couldnt upgrade or update through Windows Update. Deferring the update in Windows Update probably did me in, so if you find that you cant update to 1511 from build 10240 you will have to bite the bullet. The drivers wont install because of how DX12 handles information in the new build and are not backwards compatible.

To figure out what version of Windows 10 you are running, open command prompt, type in "winver" without the quotes, and a popup window will appear.

Backing up your data and everything else falls on you, I lost everything in my update process...including my RAID arrays and all my saved game profiles. If you have to delete all of this, make sure you put everything on a separate hard drive and just disconnect it before you proceed.
