BOM screenshots...pt 3.
Hey guys...last installment (I promise).
===========
Last mission.
Me-110 on an airfield attack.
=
Mission briefing. You can see I have a wingie, and 4 escorts…AND…clear weather. I can tell you two things about this briefing/map:
1). I WILL NOT be approaching the target at 500m.
2). I WILL extend out east of the airfield and come over the drome on a NE to SW heading so as to “one pass and haul ass”!
=
Wingie and I are bombed up and loving the excellent visibility.
=
It gets ugly fast. A ton of bad guys show up, the escort runs off to intercept them (good for them), and then inexplicably, my wingman turns to engage them too! I “order” him to return to formation, but he ignores me, dumps his load, and promptly gets shot down. Dickhead. I get really low, sneak in to the NE and am now climbing a bit and turning to the SW. It looks like there’s a line of stuff and some hangers that I can lay my eggs on!
=
I hit a bunch of vehicles, revetments, and….
=
…their lovely hangers. Oh well, their mechanics will be working in the rain for the foreseeable future.
=
I take a few hits over the airdrome, but I get greedy on the way home and strafe a vehicle column. As luck would have it, they have a AAA truck and he ruins my port side engine.
=
Glad I did that test flight shutting down that engine. Number one shut down and feathered….
=
Flying like a charm on one motor. Good thing I don’t have to do anything like dogfight!
=
NICE to have two engines when you only need one.
=
Made it all the way home!
=
Ah….the chirp of the main tires in the dirt.
=
“Bier und brat time!”
=
One small comment with no screenshots. I then flew about ½ dozen missions in the P-40 for the “dark side” and I’ll say that I LOVE IT! Not a great “first line” fighter, but fun as hell to fly! Won’t turn with the -109, won’t climb with the -109, but if you can hold your own and get in position, those six .50s will tear anything the Germans have to pieces. Lots of fun to fly!
later all!

Re: BOM screenshots...pt 3.
Such a beautiful looking game with excellent immersion and a good damage model. Your missions descriptions with screenshots have almost convinced me to reinstall it.
If only 777 did proper FMs.
(E.g. a Yak-1 with a low energy state should not be able to catch a climbing Bf 109 F4 which has a higher altitude and energy state.)
An easy to use co-op mode would be great too.
Still, keep the posts coming, BBall. They are entertaining as always.

Re: BOM screenshots...pt 3.
Thanks guys,
This is probably my biggest gripe about the BOS/BOM world. A great SP flight sim is a nice thing, but with the speed of the net, the ease of comms software, and such...COOP becomes the holy grail IMHO.
After almost 30 years of being a gamer, I find that my needs are pretty simple really. I'm in my happy place with:
- a great "modern" flight sim, with the emphasis on rotary winged operations (and by great, I mean LOTS of things...including stability). DCS with all of it's "issues", fills this need quite well.
- a great WWII flight sim (I also love the WWI kites, but not as much as the purr of an Allison/Merlin/Daimler... ). The old "legacy" IL-2 Sturmovik was impossible to beat here. The COOP in this sim was some of the best online (and LAN) flying I've ever experienced.
- a great FPS. Too many titles to chose from, and with the exception of the Medal of Honor/Battlefield 3 types, this is mostly an SP arena for me.
So right now, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. If they ever pull their collective heads out of their asses at 777/1C, and get the fact that the vast majority of the online flight sim world would love to have a simple COOP option in their flight sims (Rise of Flight and BOS/BOM series), then life would truly be good.
Oh, forgot that last "need" in terms of being a gamer...
...cold beer.
Have a great day all!

LOL....thanks Flyer my brudda.
Forgot to mention that Paul Wilson has thrown his hat into the BOS/BOM ring.
Not sure if you guys are familiar with him, but he became famous in the ROF world with his PWCG (Paul Wilson Campaign Generator). It's an amazing utility that generates missions that are incredible in their immersion and/or ease of use. It has tons of "warm and fuzzy" stuff too...storyline in terms of squadrons/personalities, etc. When it was first released, you had to "ALT-TAB" your ROF, do the PWCG thing, go back into the game and select the mission. Nowadays, 777 and/or PW have tuned it so it can be done within the sim itself. It's awesome IMHO. I have not tried it yet in the BOS/BOM world, but I expect it to be just as cool here too...

I plan on cobbling together a little movie showing the P-40 and the -110 (my two new "favs" in the sim). I'll have it up later this week.

Yeah, I was quite active in the forum discussion during the first few versions of PWCG for BoS, providing feedback and providing advice to players on how to tweak PWCG settings. It is not without its issues, but most of the problems seem to stem from BoS's tricky work with AI. Still a bit of fun though and it is nice to have a unit to fly with.
EDIT: Also unlike the normal campaign mode, you don’t have to ‘win’ the mission to progress. Just like in RoF PWCG, in BoS/BoM PWCG the real life approach is taken – if you have survived the mission, you have won
