Downloading as I write this

for those of you who can not get the download to start go into the bin folder. Left sift and right click and select "open command window here" then type "DCS_updater.exe update"

Are you able to use all modules? I've seen people having issues with that. I'm also wondering if the L39 is released.

How many folks have FORGOTTEN to remove JSGME  mods BEFORE installing...????

I better go to work because the client I am defending in a criminal case may be upset if I don't show up at Court today.

Buggered if I can get it to work, do you have to update the beta install or the main install? I used the bin folder DCS_updater.exe update method after the auto check had a quick look then started as if there was no update.......

I went to the ED website, not the forum and downloaded the beta installer from the DCS World Beta page.

The beta installer is only 4mb so I told it to run the download instead of saving it. After that the rest of the install was pretty automatic.

How big is the download?

In addition to Sixs post the update is performed on the installed Beta version unsure how big its going to get Kiwi.

It pulls a lot of files from your current DCS install (stock in my case, I don't run the 1.2.16 beta), hence why you need to disable the mods in JSGME first. Mine is currently downloading an additional 7.5GB of files.

So can I disable mods, download the 1.5 beta and run it and that's it?

I'm going to have to give Mrs Kiwi instructions over FaceTime to do it so it will run overnight while I fly home, being jet lagged is a good excuse to waste a day on DCS.

That's it.

You can re-enable the mods on the 1.2.16 install afterwards if you like, but for now at least there are going to be issues with using any of our mods with the 1.5 beta.

To summarise in one post for everyone’s convenience:
1. Disable all mods.

2. Go to the ED website, and download the DCS World 1.5 Beta installer on the Beta page. The installer is about 4 mb. The link to the page is here:

3. Run the Beta installer. Basically, the 1.5 Beta installer is like any other installer. Hence once running, it will ask you to agree to an agreement and then ask you choose a file directory for the Beta. It will then install and automatically begin ‘updating’ to 1.5.

As Highway said, it will pull the lion share of DCS files (about 20 GB) from your current DCS 1.2.xxx install (saving you a big download). Hence, the advice to switch off your mods, otherwise things can go a bit whacky.

After this, it will then download and install the new files (about 7 GB) for DCS 1.5 Open Beta.

4. Have fun playing DCS World 1.5!

EDIT: Module installation.

1. After the installation is complete load DCS 1.5. DO NOT RE-ENABLE YOUR MODS IN YOUR DCS 1.2.XXX INSTALL AT THIS STAGE.

2. Login to the game, and then go to the top of the menu page and click the module tab.

3. Once at the module page, after a loading a bit, DCS will ask you if you want to install your modules. Click 'Ok'. DCS will then begin loading modules. It will first take files from your DCS 1.2.xxx install and then download any new updates for each module which have come in as part of Edge.

4. All done. You can re-enable your mods in your DCS 1.2.xxx install now.

Tried to see if mods still work in 1.5..






Mods enabled are Terrain mod, UH-1H cockpit mods, skins mod and combined sounds mod

We're working on them... Terrain and sounds do indeed work without any issues, I haven't tested the skins yet, but the cockpit mods all require some tweaking and the objects mods are having to be completely rebuilt.

I've done as much as I can today (2AM here), I hope to have some stuff ready for you all to download over the weekend.

Skins mod seems to work, with the medivac skin I also have the logos in the cockpit.

HighWay, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I need some technical assistance please. After downloading 1.5 and trying to start DCS, following the directions above, I get this Error message "DCS Error message: The program can't start because MSVCP120.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Before I re-download it and re-install it, I thought I'd check with our tech's first. Any assistance would be great. Thanks in advance.

There are 3 files i ran 2 and three. That fixed it for me.
