Cali (flying name) Jim (real name) REQUESTING TO JOIN
Good morning from Northern CA. Really glad I ended up here as there is NO OTHER aircraft I would like to fly but the UH-1 in a "group setting". The "turbine spin up" during start up, the aroma of Jet A kerosene fumes floating out from the exhaust, that famous blade "whapping" sound & shaking motion which are iconic of the Huey has intrigued me all my life. I get goose bumps just thinking about it, if you know what I mean, and if you're as passionate as I am then I don't have to explain it to you - YOU GET IT!
Although not a pilot I've always dreamed of "sittin up front" w/ my hand on the stick "pushin air" at ground level.
I'm currently flying: DCS, P3D sim & War Thunder, i'm also a rc heli & quad pilot. My experience level In DCS is at the beginner level and need heli training.
Age: 64 - yeah I know - "old guy" retired w/ lots of (dead) home time on my hands but young at heart :-)
Location: - Chico, CA.
In game user name requested: Cali
Gear: Thrustmaster HOTAS, Saitek X55 Rhino HOTAS, MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals, TRACKIR, Antlion ModMic microphone, Logitech H800 headset.
Thanks for considering me as a candidate.

Hi Cali and welcome!
Don't worry about your age, I'm almost the only one here who's nutsacks didn't drop yet with only 30 years behind the bar. You've knocked at the right door See you above.

Holy (s#@*) smokes, didn't know my app was going to show up here for the whole world to see. I guess the only thing I left out was my ss# & home address! Well, it's like everything else in today's world - nothin's secret.
Thanks for the welcome NeF I'm excited - can you tell?

Thanks for replyin guys. Appreciate the welcomes. Downloaded GameTracker & didn't realize I already had TeamSpeak but forgot it's password so's life's good again. Yeah, I went on YouTube & used "1st Cav Div UH-1 Huey" to see if there were any vids but no luck except for Jim Howell's channel. Do you guys know of anyother channels that have some good 1st Cav Div vids?

Hey NorCal!
WELCOME! Always good to have another old fart in company! I'll be 59 in July, and it'll be good to fly with someone who can remember where they were when Lennon was shot....lol (Nef was a mere twinkle in his Dad's eye....sorry Nefster my lad).
Great group of guys here...excellent to be exact. Strut is correct...we ARE in a bit of a hiatus at the moment. Waiting for DCS World 2 (with the Edge stuff) to release, but I'm sure we'll crank right up again after that...and when the Cobra hits the streets. Good thing you're retired, for a job will just get in the way when that happens. I'm also sure that Flyer, SIX, Extra or the other instructors will be happy to log some time with ya in the mean time...they're superb.
Oh, and lots of good Vietnam flying vids on YouTube.
Here's one I cobbled together from an online mission we flew in August of 2013 (shortly after the group was formed). The Huey was new to DCS, and we were just getting to know her. It had some issues back then....like the door gunners wouldn't engage targets, and some other stuff. Also, I can't help but giggle at how "interesting" some of our flying was back then....

Again....WELCOME...and we'll see ya in the virtual skies!

Re: Cali (flying name) Jim (real name) REQUESTING TO JOIN
Thanks for the greeting. Not only do I remember the evening when John entered the big white pearlies but I was at SFO when he & the rest of the group landed at the airport & played at the Cow Palace - I was 13. A teen age "partner in crime" & I hitch hiked 40 mi. from Menlo Park to see them play. We had to streeeeeeeeetch the truth about bein 18 to get inside. Jeeze I'm datin myself.
Been retired for 2 yrs and lookin back don't know how I ever managed to squeeze a full time job in between all the "extracurricular activities :-). Flight simming has consumed most of my time if I'm not out & about riddin my Harley along w/ eatin & sleepin. I really like P3D and in particular like flyin the OV-10 Bronco X twin turbo prop by Aerosoft. The plane, scenery & weather add-ons are about as real as it gets. That's why I lean towards DCS realism AND also can't wait for DCS World 2 to hit the streets.
In the meantime does anyone still do group flying w/ the Huey? Sorry if I'm seem anxious. 1st Cav Div flying group seems to have the "Huey sim market" cornered.

Hi NorCal, welcome to the group. You've certainly come to the right place for UH-1 immersion. Don't worry about the age...there's a bunch of us old guys in here, I'm one of them. It's our job to keep these young wiper snappers in line...lol. Anyway, I'm the battalion executive officer and I will get you set up to start you 229th career. I will send a welcome letter to your PM that will explain all of the procedures for getting set up. Again, welcome to the group and I look forward to flying with you.
