That's a pretty powerful video...especially the little girl with the pistol at the end.

The still photo shown for the first video are Australian infantry from the 7 RAR being picked up. More info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_history_of_Australia_during_the_Vietnam_War

Some great music and great footage of the old girl in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGm_vWuzlig
It is somewhat graphic in places you have been warned don't complain if you feel sick.

Here's a good one showing the 1st Cav at An Khe. Lots of different aircraft including the Huey.
P.S. Haven't been able to fly for a while due to major home renos. Hope to get back at it soon.

Here's another good one. High quality film footage, it must have been restored.

I could not agree more after watching all those cool clips!!!! (thanks guys for posting them up)
Question for Flyer, SIX and you other "fling wing" drivers.
IIRC, I read somewhere that the slicks were prohibited from flying into an LZ after the "heavies" (Chinooks, etc) had operated in there for a certain time period due to the rotor turbulence they created. True or not? The 5:30 mark of the "An Khe" clip made me thing of that....
Same, same here for me Bandit (for other reason)....but things are improving, and I hope to be back in the virtual skies soon!!!!
Just never forget.... THE BIRD IS THE WORD!!!!!!!

Re: Vietnam War Footage and Music
Hey BBall, I don't recall a rule of thumb or requirement related to time between aircraft types entering an LZ but it makes since that you don't operate an 8,500 pound aircraft with a 33,000 pound aircraft due to the wind velocities that are created by such a heavy air-frame. I would think that turbulence created by the CH-47 would dissipate fairly quickly and that there would be no residual turbulence in the LZ that could create issues for the UH-1...however if I were planning on following a CH-47 into an LZ, I would plan to make my approach a few minutes after the -47 has clear of the LZ...Six may have a better defined answer for you...and me

P.S.: I just realised, after 45 minutes of official movie there are another 20 minutes of personal stories from one of the pilots... very cool !...

Wow, thanks for that Blade... not seen that video before. a terrific tribute to the pilots and crew that flew the Huey... and of course the bird itself...
Here is a youtube video introduced by Bart Kelly, a Bell Helicopter employee who, along with Arthur Young, the inventor of that Bell Helicopter, discribes the trials and tribulations involved developing the Bell Helicopter that eventually became the UH-1 Huey...
Followed by four short films made by Arthur Young himself discribing the early days of inventing the Helicopter.
These guys were American Hero's...
