Returning soon from LOA Empty Returning soon from LOA

Post by (D/229) Hammer Mon 30 Jul 2018, 17:23

I just returned from Atlanta this weekend and retrieved almost all of my flight gear.

As of this moment, I am starting to design my next computer. Depending when the new GTX series card comes out, maybe back online at the end of August at the latest. Anyone have news on this release date? I havent heard anything new yet, but was supposed to be dropped by the end of this month.

I need ideas on building a pit. I "might" have a shot at getting a captains seat from the scrap yard of 747s up here and Ill be looking into that this week, but for now I need some help with ideas for sheet metal fabrication and/or easy setups where all I need to do is buy a car seat. The nearest home depot is 45 miles away and Ive been buying AR-15s instead of piecing one together. Now that I have my flight gear back, I need something to draw up around them. If anyone can help provide pics and ideas, that would be awesome.

Also might be fabricating an open case/desk like a Lian Li. Not sure yet... Shocked

I posted mine here. It's highly functional, but not too comfortable.
https://1stcavdiv.forumotion.net/t2639-homemade-heli-seat-wood

I wouldn't build your computer into your seat/desk. When you consider accessibility, upgradability, contingencies, extra time and planning to make, there are a lot of reasons not to. If you can come up with that many reasons to actually do it, go for it, but the KISS method hasn't failed me.

thats actually not a bad idea...now just have to figure out where to mount the MFDs. Instead of a wooden chair though. Ill just hit up the junk yard for a car seat if I cant get my hands on a 747 classic captains seat.

Nice beast!
I'd be interested how she measures up in DCS once you've tweak her.
I'm planning on a rebuild soon myself.

Are you going down the VR road?

Sometime soon probably, right now just focused on getting back in the saddle. I might build my pit up this weekend if I can find the time.

Ok, Im officially back in the saddle again. Computer is now up and running, spent the last 2 weeks troubleshooting my hardware (bad Warthog joystick, expensive fix...) and wondering where the hell all of my TrackIr stuff went to. Are there people still active here? I dont see a lot of posting around here anymore...

Did you check the PC Board inside the JS..?  it's  probably  the culprit.     $ 35-45.oo only...

I had my  Warthog Throttle board go inop earlier this year. (I troubleshot it down to the board inside my Throttle &  After I spoke/emailed with Thrust-master  support  group, They agreed.  I needed another Board.

By the way they were talking, it's a common issue with BOTH Throttle & JS. ( different pc boards though)

I got a new PC board from Thrust-master   (came from an Indiana warehouse).  Fixed for  $45.oo.  I wasn't going to spend another Arm & leg  for another Warthog. $ 350.oo ++

PC Board comes all wired up, Just install & button  it back up.  Runs  just fine .

Im not very good at soldering PCB, and I need a little bit more than just the board. It was working fine last year before I took my LOA, but it sat in storage for a while and I dont know what happened to it. I just went out and bought another joystick since the throttle still works just fine. Ill probably just sell the other stick as spare parts. Ive had it since it came out day 1, so its not like I didnt get my money out of it!
