Off line for a couple of weeks
Well gentlemen, I'm in the bulls eye of Hurricane Matthew. I live just the other side of the river from the Kennedy Space Center where they're showing a direct line of travel for the storm. It's suppose to be a direct hit here tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon as a category 3 storm so thing will probably get a little dicey by tomorrow night through Friday evening.
They expect winds to be between 120 and 130 mph so it should be a good show. I probably won't have power for a while (possibly a week or two) so I won't be posting much until they get power sorted out. I'll let everyone know when things get back to normal here. Last hurricanes we went through in 2004 it took a while to get the kinks worked out of everything and this ones suppose to be a bit worse. Skullz, make sure you guys batten down the hatches. It's forecast to come your way next before turning around and possible coming back to Florida for a second visit.
Talk to everyone on the other side...

The storm surge predictions for your area are pretty scary. Hope you plan to evacuate. Best thoughts for you and yours.

Re: Off line for a couple of weeks
Hurricane Matthew skimmed the coast and caused quite a bit of damage to the barrier Islands but not too much inland. Power outages were spotty and we were spared. We got through the storm with little damage and had power throughout the storm. We got lucky...only blocks away, folks lost power and still have no power. Damage is mostly downed trees, broken tree branches, broken fences downed power lines. Three people lost there lives to the storm so it was not without casualties but it could have been worse if the storm had have been just thirty or forty miles to the east...just pure luck...

The news had video of Cocoa Beach filmed near the Ron Jons block. Looked like a foot of water above street level and rising. Thought of you and my other friends and acquaintances in the area. Glad you are OK. Looked pretty gnarly for you guys for awhile there.

Re: Off line for a couple of weeks
Thanks all...it was a little hairy at times but I've been through a few. I went through all of the bad ones on '04 so I was braced for the worst case scenario this time. I had power through the whole progression of the storm so I was able to monitor the assessments as they came in. We stocked up on supplies and were prepared to be miserable for a week or so...glad we didn't have to do that...
