"He's baaaaack..."
Well...almost.
The new build is (finally) nearing its completion. After staring at the boxes sitting on my office floor for the last five weeks, I finally got around to ripping out the guts of my old rig, and putting in the new. Then (like always), "real life" reared its ugly head, and off I went to work again (had the pleasure to fly the 0520 "dawn patrol" launch from MSP to ATL day before yesterday...out of the house at 0230 in a driving snowstorm...any wonder that I want to move in next door to Flyer in Florida when we get this horse farm sold?).
I've spent several days getting the following re-installed: DCS 1.5, DCS 2.0, NTTR, UH-1H (not to mention "IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad", "Rise of Flight", and "Fallout 4"). It's been a grind, and not without it's ugly moments (remember that ugly "0xc00007b...application failed to start" error message we get until Windows pulls its head out of its ass and decides to update its C++ crap?...yeah, I got to have fun with that again).
There "might" have been a few cuss words directed toward Mr. Gates, and/or a beer (or three) consumed to help ease the pain, but in the end, it all seems to be up and running. So far, prelim testing (no Warthog plugged in yet...that'll be last me thinks), I've run the "Free Flight" in both 1.5 and NTTR, and I've averaged anywhere from 150+ in 1.5 to around 90 something FPS at Nellis....so I'm happy with all that (EVERYTHING maxed out...except "water" of course). The next few hours will be getting the other "players" up and working well....TrackIR, Warthog HOTAS, TeamSpeak....etc. Sometimes I think one needs the patience of a Buddhist monk to be PC flight sim gamer....
Anyway, another 4 day trip starting tomorrow (home on the redeye from Anchorage on Friday morning). I TRULY hope to be back in the fray online with you muggers and mal-contents sometime this weekend. See ya then!!!!
For the geeks amongst us, my new specs:
- ASUS Maximus VIII Hero mobo with a Corsair H75 liquid cooler
- Intel Core i7 6700K at 4 gHz
- 8 gb DDR HyperX ram
- 2 X Samsung SSD (120 gb and 500 gb)
- MSI GeForce GTX 980 4gb video card
(kept my old 850W power supply, optical drive, and 2 HDs in my Cooler Master Stacker tower)
***MANY thanks to Griff for all his help/advice with the new build...he's truly a genius when it comes to this stuff!***
Hope to see everyone back in the virtual skies soon!

Re: "He's baaaaack..."
Everything about all of the above sounds great, apart from:
"redeye from Anchorage on Friday morning"
and
"8 gb DDR HyperX ram"
...what's with only 8 gb of RAM??

LMAO....that should read 2 X 8 gb....my bad.
Yeah, I hate flying redeyes, BUT they are pretty quite, ATC is asleep (almost), and the hardest part about them is staying awake! (thank God for sh*tty airline coffee!)
Got TS, Warthog and TiR5 up and going....just having issues getting my old "profiles" to show up in TiR5, and my old "input" files to show up in DCS 2.0. I'll get it sorted out soon...then it's on to the battle of MODS...lol.
later all!

Re: "He's baaaaack..."
Sorry 'bout that Samri!
By 10am ANC time, I'll be home, just waking up from the "post redeye" slumber (with the required amount of drool on the pillow), and getting ready to feel like sh*t the rest of the day.
We WILL meet up one day, and when we do, the Asahi and/or Sapporo (or Alaskan Amber) breweries better lay on an extra shift! Say hello to the waitress with the "big eyes" over at Humpy's for me!
Have a safe flight, and I'll see ya in the skies (virtual or otherwise).

Hey X!
I was hired by Northwest Orient way back in 1983, we merged with Republic Airlines in 1987 to become plain old Northwest Airlines. Our last merger was a few years ago with Delta....

You ever fly from AMS?

Re: "He's baaaaack..."
Hey X,
I used to fly a LOT of AMS (usually from Boston or Detroit) when I was flying F/O on the DC-10, but in the last 10 years or so, I mostly go the other way. My normal routes are now from the west coast of the USA to Honolulu, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Singapore, Palau, Guam and a few others...
Delta is starting a Minneapolis to Rome route on 01 June, so I'll have to do that so I can check the "Italy" box in my logbook (that and the fetching "Mrs. BBall" wants to go to Rome so bad she can taste it). Maybe after I get back in the habit of flying the NAT Tracks, I'll bid a few AMS trips and we'll share a pint. Would love to hook up with some of our "B" brothers!
