Saw this on another site for the SA342 Gazelle.

DCS SA342 Gazelle Project

Appears that it used to be planned as free mod but may be applying for a 3rd party license.

Man that brings back some memories... The British Army training versions never had half of the systems that this version has, but the sound is pretty spot on from what I remember.

COUNT ME IN!!!!

Me thinks deep down somewhere in my psyche, I'm a scout pilot at heart. Nothing better than sneaking around, playing voyeur and trying not to get caught in the process (in the helicopters also....LMAO....just kidding of course).

I remember scouting being referred to at Rucker in the 58's as:
"Snoop and Poop with N2 Droop".
(This was due to a rather sloppy N2 governor that was extremely slow to restore Rotor Rpm when there were large power demands.  This was rarely an issue in the Huey.)

They reckoned a scout pilot in Vietnam had a higher life expectancy than the average helo crews, due to the fact the enemy knew if they shot at it, they'd have cans of whoop ass baring down on them shortly afterwards.

One thing I learnt early was that if you follow a set of tank tracks - eventually (and not well thought out by me), you will find a tank at the end of them. Bit of a challenge when all you had was an old holstered 9mm pistol and both your hands are trying to fly the helo!!! Needless to say - the tank won and the umpire ruled me shot down
(by its HMG - a 30 cal if I recall)!

@ Samri - I can remember on one of those old "Busted Budgie" exercises at High range in the early 80's we were told to shoot red hand signal flares in the general direction of any Kiowa's we saw, so of course every  "digger" ( Australian version of GI) grabbed as many flares we could get, and as a result the whole plateau was well covered by "Digger SAM's", so when the inevitable did happen - some idiot actually aimed directly at a chopper the "ex" was quickly cooled down,,,, it was funny at the time but could have been bad for a Kiowa - it would have been hard to fly with a signal flare illuminating the cockpit especially while it was bouncing and burning around inside affraid affraid

I only put a month in the old Oh 58's.  I dont remember much about the droop, but we were so knew to helicopters then I am not sure I would have known the difference.  I do remember that the Oh58 and the th67 had these little engines that sometimes struggled to climb out of the remote training areas,  even maxed out on Trq once.  But to be fare to the Oh-58 even the Huey has a small weak engine that doesn't compare to my APU.

Snoop and Poop video, got to love flight school movies.

The 58 relatively had enough power, but the transmission was limiting, thus you were usually Torque limited.
Egt was an issue in hot or high ops.
The N2 over/under-speeding was minimised by anticipating power demands with the incr/decr "Inker-Dinker" switch on collective.

The Huey however was definitely underpowered and too much applied power (when heavy) would lead to engine bleed causing over pitching.
ie it was N1 limited, even though surplus Torque was available.
Performance planning was essential so you were aware of what your max weight could be for the environmental conditions
