Hey Guys! I'm Baaaaack....lol!
Wow...been a while since I've poked my ugly head into this fine establishment! I've missed your ugly faces, and the daily dose of "wisdom" that seems to exude from here!
Lots of changes in the personal/professional life. Moved from the arctic north last Fall to the wonderfully warm climes of Arizona and am loving life.
Turned in my "walking papers" at the airline, so as of 01 September, I'll no longer be an "airline puke". Haven't touched the jet since the end of February due to a rather strange medical malady (all taken care of and am in the best of health)... detailed it all (and some new flying yarns at my blogsite www.bubba757.com in case you might have some minutes and/or heartbeats to waste).
Just started back to sim flying in earnest in the UH-1 a few weeks ago, and have hooked up with some great folks over at the digital themepark servers (run by a good dude called "Zoolander"). They run a Saturday morning "instructional series" that's outstanding. They just finished up their series on the F/A-18C (a LAN mate/good friend of mine attended it and thought it was awesome), and they just started the Huey last weekend. The I.P. is the father-in-law of said good friend, and he's an ex-Army pilot that has over 5000 hours of Huey time (as a pilot and instructor), and he's NOT a sim guy (although I've had him at my house and in front of my rig, and he was gob-smacked by all of it), but he's a SUPER great guy and obviously knows the UH-1 inside and out.
Here's the link if anyone would like to pop in this Saturday and do some Huey flying (this weeks lesson plan calls for learning the dreaded "hover" maneuver....lol). I know most of you muggers and Mal-contents are seasoned Huey drivers (as I consider myself... ), but it might be fun to just listen in on Tom's lesson and maybe glean some useful gouge from him.

Re: Hey Guys! I'm Baaaaack....lol!
Thanks guys!
Good to see you two are still haunting the halls of this great institution!
Yeah, the job thing. People have lamented that it is sad that I didn't get to fly a "retirement flight" to Hawaii and back, etc., but truth be told, I'm kinda glad is happened the way it did. The thought of all the "hoopla" involved just doesn't float my boat. Every ATC person telling you to "have a great retirement", etc...and all the back slapping and hand shaking (well, maybe not that)...but you know what I mean. Just not my gig...
I was standing in the jetway on a crew changeover with the jet in Seattle about a year ago. They had just flown in from Honolulu, and it was the Captain's last flight. The guy was a hot mess. Balling and blubbering, and all that rot. I TOTALLY get where he's coming from, but it was still a bit hard to watch. I just wanted to say, "DUDE! You made it to the finish line! Shape up, wipe the snot, dry your eyes, and hit the bar! Stop acting like an idiot!"
But I didn't...
So, all in all, things are good...no...things are great (virus B.S. withstanding). I asked a good friend of mine (who was one of our 747 Captains that was forced to retire about 1 1/2 years ago with a very ugly medical issue...he's doing great now BTW) what retirement is like. His answer was awesome, "Well, every day is like Saturday, except Sunday...and it's like Sunday."
LMAO!
Have a great day all! See ya in the virtual skies!

Good to see you back. I recently finished flying in a similar way. A comment I heard about retirement - "You never get a day off!"
