DCS 2.5 rollout...
The big move...
Eventually you will have DCS 2.5 release and if you wish ..
[1] DCS 2.5 Openbeta
[2] DCS 1.5 current release that will not supported.
The 2.5 will be rolled out in two stages:
Stage 1: Openbeta 1.5 will be updated to OpenBeta 2.5. If OpenAlpha is installed the updater will pick up the installed modules from it and will suggest to remove it after the install. As usual, common files will be used from 2.2: if you selected to remove 2.2, the files will be moved. If you selected to keep 2.2, the files will be copied (actually, hardlinked).
Stage 2: Release 1.5 will be updated to Release 2.5. Before the update the updater will suggest to keep 1.5 as a separate install. If you agree, it will download the special DCS 1.5 installer which will move the files (and download what's needed if any) from your existing 1.5 install to a new location of your choice. After that, if there's OpenAlpha 2.2 is present it will do the same as Stage 1. If no OpenAlpha found, but there's OpenBeta 2.5, the update will pick up the list of modules from OpenBeta 2.5.
At the same time as Stage 2, those who only have OpenAlpha 2.2 installed will be prompted to automatically download and install Release 2.5 which will, as noted earlier, ask to remove 2.2.
This is as detailed as it gets.
Eventually you will have DCS 2.5 release and if you wish ..
[1] DCS 2.5 Openbeta
[2] DCS 1.5 current release that will not supported.

Update to Beta today, its not what you hope it is. Updating the servers, let me know if they still crash.

I dunno, the tree sizes seem to be simply huge, compared to the human structures sizes...

Agreed. Scaling is off but I'm gonna forgive that for now.(B/229) Blade wrote:I dunno, the tree sizes seem to be simply huge, compared to the human structures sizes...

New 1.5 update gives us the full control indicator in the rift. I wonder what else they fixed?

I think they also fixed the multiplayer server list not showing up. I'm no longer having to restart the game to populate the server list again after I've exited a server.

I can say they did not fix the server issues. But they did fix the crew status windows for VR as well

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
Great changelog, I am very interested in the new NVG's, the new single pad FARP, night blackout in Normandy and the VR changes. I will have to look into updating the NVG mods after the update so I recommend leaving those turned off until further notice.

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
Well its down for me and running.... to be honest, in VR Caucause with deferred shading is okay but put some MSAA in and the FPS drop to around 25 or at Gelenzhik which is a shame. Of course there are good things like the terrain grid. In HDR the trees (speedtrees) at distance look rubbish, but close up OK and they are collidable.
980ti with i7 OC at 4.7....
But thats just VR, shame because 1.5xx beta was always 45 / 90.... Looks like I have to tinker with the settings some...

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
Just to clarify, for me in VR, HDR mode is not so good.
Deferred shading works okay with some very nice terrain and furniture colours / design with VR default PLUS PD 1.5 textures & terrain textures on High etc. FPS is solid 45FPS but it is not so clear as 1.58xxx and with no MSAA you have to live with the jaggies, put MSAA to 2 and FPS drops dramatically.
CPU runs only at 20%, GPU 90 to 100% variable.

Is it worse than say the Normandy map in VR?

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
No not at all..... with the settings below I get an average 45fps in Caucause and Nevada and around 40-42 in normandy at T/O and below 100'.
Before I did not like deferred shading option in Normandy and Nevada and used HDR. Now, with this release, deferred shading to me now much is better than HDR.
Normandy appears a lot more steady with less shimmer, Nevada looks good with far less jaggies than before in deferred shading and Caucause certainly is well, more than acceptable in deferred shading, I did not like it in HDR.
And of course it is early days...

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
To get better tree textures you need to turn up 'Trees Visibility'. Its a slider to show how much of the tree you want

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
At maximum settings Caucauses trees look pretty rubbish in HDR to me at any distance except very close... In deferred shading they look fine but of course there are other penalties.
To me, this version with deferred shading option engaged is a good improvement. It make a lot of the lighting and shading effects worthwhile in VR..... but HDR does not seem to work too good in the Caucauses with 'speedtrees'... yet...

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
I don’t play in VR but - no noticeable performance hit for me...10,000ft in the air. That said even at low level 500-1000ft) I’m still good performance wise. I’ll be Huey flying tomorrow so that will be the real test I guess but so far I like it!

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
Yes VR carries a bit of an overhead. In HD I'm getting around 130-150FPS solid low down.

Re: DCS 2.5 rollout...
I would like to give that mission on Sunday another crack. This time go with the Harrier full time? SAMS will make my life difficult (which I like) but with the TPOD now being operational I think I could help in terms of recon and killing targets that are a threat to the heli’s (technicals etc)
