B Company Mission night Sunday 19/2/17
Greetings B Company.
I will be tweaking the search and destroy mission we played a couple of weeks back and hope to run it on Sunday evening. There will be lots of slick action and plenty to keep us busy.
The basic premise is to locate an enemy stronghold and air assault troops into and around the target area.
So there is no ambiguity Simple radio is required
Friendly Forces
Home Plate Na Trang AFB (Tblisi)
3 x4 slicks
1x4 Gunships
1x recon bird/AMC
2x F5E with rockets
1x SPH battery
1x B52 Payload 51x Mk82's
Both Arty and Bomber support available to Mission Commander via the tactical map(F10)
1st Battalion 7th Cavalry Airmobile
Enemy Forces
Somwhere around MM55 MM65 and MM66
Estimated Battalion strength NVA plus unknown Vietcong irregulars
Small arms, RPG's and .50 cal weapons are all we should face.
Previous missions in this area have uncovered several tunnel complexes and numerous prepared fighting positions with interlocking fields of fire
Objectives
Mayfly 1 Kiowa/Gazelle
Identify exact location of enemy troop concentrations
Identify suitable LZ for up to 8 slicks at once LZ shall be called LZ X-ray. Secondary LZ's should be noted for emergency use
Co-ordinate arty and arclight for preparatory fire.
Co-ordinate Gunships and fast air
Bandit, Killer Spade and Northflag flights (Slicks)
Lift first elements of 7th Cav from starting strip to Firebase Veghel
Wait for the call to move in and insert.
Return to Firebase Veghel picking up the rest of the battalion and inserting them as quickly as possible.
Tiger flight (GS)
Provide ARA at designated LZ prior to insertion. Wait for LZ confirmation and the order to start preping from recon ship (AMC)
Provide close force protection for slicks on ingress and egress from the LZ. Rearm/repair available Firebase Veghel
Pirate 1-1 Pirate 1-2 F5E
Provide CAS as directed by AMC
Freqs
Battlenet/guard
124.000 Victor
Internal comms
Bandit 31.50 FM
North flag 32.00 FM
Killer Spade 35.00 FM
Tiger 45.00 FM
Pirate 255.000 Uniform
Firebase Veghel ADF 520.0 Khz DF
AO

Additional info
Assign 2 slicks to transport lubricant and spare parts for the artillery battery. Once delivered to the Firebase Vehgel a new battery of howitzers will be on call for tasking
Tune to 131.00 Victor for music

Gizzy, if you are putting Viggens in the mission mate - can you assign a specific target foe a strike via way points. otherwise use A10s if you dont want to do that
Just a suggestion
Cheers mate

If I add Viggens they could be a replacement for Phantoms. Can they do low level dumb bombing?

Re: B Company Mission night Sunday 19/2/17
Ok I will add 2 Viggens they have a 100 Nm flight to the target area. They will be able to rearm at a nearer airstrip after expending the first load. This will give plenty time for the slicks and gunships to get to the AO at a similar time

New target area on the north side of Gori up to the workers settlement and between the 2 rivers. Large enemy incursion across the border.
Threats of SA and AAA

Re: B Company Mission night Sunday 19/2/17
Well I have to say I enjoyed it, I don't know what happened to the gunships but the F5's where impressive in a cas role. All of the B company pilots should give themselves a pat on the back. The flying was exemplary and while Flubber should be proud of his role I must say both Christophe and Headon more than exceeded themselves, especially night Ops on your first real mission. Well done Chaps

Re: B Company Mission night Sunday 19/2/17
It was great fun Cib! Really enjoyed flying the F-5!
Unfortunately I managed to destroy one of the friendly ground forces that you guys dropped on a previously occupied position. When I saw tracers coming from there I turned in with rockets not realizing it was friendly now. Killed 9 friendly ground units that way

Can't say I enjoyed it mate.
Originally just me for GS - so I accepted to carry a sling load in a slick as no one else from B was volunteering. In essence everyone then just did their own thing and flew off...
So I picked up the load and singularly flew to the FARP....
Dropped off the load as requested and saw Xtra had arrived so added some guns and rockets and flew as a GS team.
GST requested to recce the target town and smoke an LZ. Stand-off orbit around the town revealed no threats, seemed like a few structures but no threats.
Went in low level to drop smoke at a ID'ed LZ whilst Xtra orbited. Incoming AAA went low and dropped smoke at edge of town for a LZ. Came out and saw Xtra shot down around 1km from the north of the town as he was just starting a gun run.
No idea where the AAA was, presumed north west side of town and strafed area as flight approaching LZ. Incoming AAA but as mention before you cannot see the source if head on.... engines on fire and crashed. End of.... Long flight if rejoined ...

Re: B Company Mission night Sunday 19/2/17
Addendum:
If someone had undertaken the Mayfly 1 Kiowa/Gazelle role had been scouted the town the outcome would have been different.
More joined as the evening continued which was strange, there was no co-ordinated start to reflect the mission brief... with few indicating attendance from the beginning - maybe just the way of things but makes commanding and planning difficult...
Sometimes I do wonder why so many fly fixed wings these days thereby depleting helicopter numbers (specter's mob excepted ) .... maybe the 229th is moving away from its base theme... maybe some guys are bored with helos... dunno
