Briefing: 21.05z TS B Company channel
Location: 1.53 server Jungle Map
Tasks:
1:
Flight, formation & lead practice utilising 3 flight styles (low level, contour, NOE) 5 minute round robin lead, formation & style change over. Max craft per flight 5. Multiple flights if more than 5 pilots.
2:
Flight formation landing, simulated troop deployment & T/O Max 3 craft per flight Normal non-combative steady approach commencing 60knts 400’ agl,and normal hover & settle. Multiple well separated flights into same LZ will be used dependent on attendance
3:
Normal non-combative steady approach commencing 60knts 400’ agl,and normal hover & settle. Flight landing, simulate troop deployment & T/O Max 8 craft per flight
4:
HOT LZ landing, troop deployment & T/O Max 3 craft per flight Running landing, actual troop deployment and quick takeoff, fast & low. Multiple well separated flights into same LZ will be used dependent on attendance
5:
HOT LZ landing, Troop deployment & TO Max 8 craft per flight Running landing, actual troop deployment and quick takeoff, fast & low.
B COMPANY TRAINING INTERIM SOP’s
SOP's for formal training sessions
Airfield Circuit
Orbit direction will be dictated by topography, at GELEDZHIK this will be clockwise to avoid Mi8 FARP traffic positioned south of the main runway. Join at the circuit at 500’ agl
Take Off
All aircraft will take off:
..from either a clear taxi way or the main runway. Multiple craft in flight formation should use the main runway.
..into wind. (check server briefing)
Landing
All landings to be made into wind on the main runway then hover taxi to parking or maintenance.
If there is no traffic manoeuvring on the taxiways, ramp or maintenance areas then the taxiway may be used as the approach route.
Communications.
Until ATC is implemented, flight and individual T/O’s and Landing’s to be communicated in a brief professional manner. Ex: Red One, commencing takeoff, heading 090 degrees, turning right when clear of airfield.
Red 2, On finals, 1 km out, runway 90.
Formation communications
No need for lead to communicate slight deviations in altitude or direction
30 degree turns and significant changes in altitude to be notified in advance where possible.
If lead makes a mistake, no need to apologise, keep comms brief.
Instructions / warnings to be acknowledged by flight in order, by flight position number.
Aircraft Lights
Daylight...
Activate anti-collision light when:
..manoeuvring within the airfield boundary
..within 2nm of the airfield boundary extending to 2000’ agl
..at any other time when a high visibility profile is desired.
..the trail craft in a multiple craft formation. All other craft in formation the anti-collision light will be OFF.
Position lights to be used when a flight of multiple craft are taxing within the airfield boundary, deactivate when positioned for take off..
Formation Procedures
Once flight lead receives the flight up call from trail, they will
make the required ATC calls or acknowledge trail. Five seconds after the end of the ATC
clearance or flight lead’s radio call, all aircraft in the flight will lift simultaneously. Flight lead
should accelerate slightly faster than a VMC takeoff, but not so fast that the remainder of the
flight is scrambling to catch up.

Re: B Company Training 1st March & Interim SOP's
Just a bump to bring this training notification to the fore.
One area practised tonight will be the 'The running landing'...
As you ALL know I am not a master aviator but here is, I hope, a reasonable description..
This manoeuvre can be performed using any approach angle, however a shallow approach of 5 degrees or less is desirable because it minimizes the amount of power required to arrest the descent rate prior to touchdown.
The shallow approach is normal in every way except that the pilot plans his deceleration such that he arrives at his touchdown spot just above translational lift airspeed.
The helicopter is transitioned onto the landing gear, and then forward ground speed is bled off during the slide.
The running landing is a required competency for the Senior Aviator Wings award.

...as an even less experienced pilot, I think it might be helpful to add - because I am happy to admit that I didn't know, and didn't think, of this until I had done a couple of sliding landings and nearly tipped the ship on it's nose:
...gently reduce the collective to transition the weight as the helicopter decelerates in the slide.
Thanks again for all the work you are putting into this, Gizzy. Catch you on the server tonight.
