05082015 LZ Ops training
Here is some footage from our training run. Next time Ill try to get some TacView footage in aswell.
Few pointers:
Depending on the mission and theatre, do your fence in/out checks when you are clear of the airfield. In theatres with a specific FLOT/FLET (forward line own and enemy troops) you will do them once crossing (main focus will be your transponder settings for Friendly air defence). In an AO where you dont know exactly where the enemy might be, you always want to have your doorguns ready and as Guns you want to be armed and ready. Same goes for your ASE settings.
During planning determine your landing direction. Make as much use of your doorguns as possible. Never land with your nose towards the area where you expect enemy, since the 12 and 6 o'clock are the slicks weakpoints. Landing direction and formation is determined via METT-TC SOP v1.1.
Same goes for prefiring in the LZ. METT-TC depending you may want to prefire in tree complexes or other areas around the LZ by using ARA UH-1H's, arty or fixed wing. Ofcourse your mission needs to support this (ROE's).
As for the guns, we needed to be inbetween the objective and the slicks to support them as soon as they took fire. Now we had to transit a while to get into position to not fire overhead friendlies.
Tally is used for enemy
Visual for friendlies
Contact for features (towers, smoke, tree complexes)
Tactical flights with lights off.
